Saturday’s are for...
6km run (woefully slow but I did it and that’s all that matters! I will get faster and fitter. Next week is 8km.)  A random bagpiper as I ran along Shelly Beach which swelled my heart and shed a few tears because... bagpipes! Must be the Scottish coming out in me.
Here’s a little known fact about me,
I was a very accomplished highland dancer for 13 years and very good actually! So now when I hear bagpipes it always set me off. (Check out the bagpipes video in my stories!)  And a swim in the ocean with my gorgeous friend and fellow business owner. (Nevermind our bags got swept away by a rogue wave and we had to race after them into the rock pools to fish out our stuff, amidst fits of laughter and people trying to help and act as spotters as some of our stuff got dragged out to sea! I can’t believe this phone still works, everything else was drenched. Rest In Peace my lovely sundress which I couldn’t get to!)  Bloody great start to the weekend so we can fill those passionate, creative and inspirational tanks right back up and ensure we have a great next week!  What are you up to?

So… it’s come to my attention that I’m a bit of a perfectionist! Just when I thought I knocked that bad boy on it’s head a while ago… nope, it sneaks up on you and really gets in the way! What sucks about perfectionism is that it paralyses us with indecision and perceived roadblocks, which stop us from really doing our best work because we’re too busy waiting for everything to be perfect, rather than just getting comfortable in being ourselves and keeping it real.  Anyway, I’m happy to say that my podcast and video channel are now officially live and ready for action! In it’s perfectly imperfect state!!! Why a podcast you say? Because it’s one of the most personal ways you can engage and truly connect with an audience who get you and enjoy absorbing your content. Think about it, if you listen to podcasts you are most likely doing it when you’re doing something pretty personal in your downtime; like driving your car, walking your dog, running on a treadmill, or cooking dinner. And if you’re lucky enough to be allowed into somebody’s personal space through your podcast, then there’s a very good chance you are going to create a special and unique relationship with them for a very long time. 
It’s Connection Marketing 101. And I can’t believe that I’ve taken this long to get on board! But the timing is perfect as it always is when you just let life flow, and I can’t wait to share our theme of connection with your every week.

Instagram is all about visual appeal. So how can you expect to have a successful profile without a visually stimulating aesthetic?
If the word aesthetic seems like a foreign term to you, don’t worry it’s definitely easier and more fun than you may think.  Determine what your colour palette will be. Dark, light, vibrant or calm, your profile is what matches your brand and message. Make sure to break it up and change it up, a busy, cluttered feed can put people off especially when someone is visiting your page for the first time. You want to inspire and engage your audience so they keep coming back for more. If you feel worried about how it will look, make a mockup feed in a document to test out the flow.  2. Connection is even harder to maintain if you keep resisting being visible with your brand.  Social media is exactly that.
Social and interactive. People want to hear from you with great information that helps them. A like, a comment or a share is a sincere interaction by another human saying “I like you, I like your brand and I support you.” Are you responding to that via a conversation? Or are you missing the opportunity completely?  You need a plan to develop meaningful content for your audience that gives them serious answers to their problems, and builds trust and connection at the same time. Not selling, just helping, inspiring and engaging. And you need to engage in great conversations online.  Ask yourself this... how many times did anybody see or hear from your business this week? Now... how consistently are they hearing from you each month?

I was out this morning shooting my intro for my upcoming podcast and video channel and talk about face some challenges! Ha ha!! When you're just hanging out, you don't notice all the little noises, but as soon as you pull out a video camera all of a sudden you notice the deafening cicadas, the screeching birds, the whomping boats racing up and down the river, the dogs that come up to say hello/swim/or just sniff you!...
Even the dude fishing who could see I was making a video and just casually strolling by within metres of me for about 10 minutes while I was trying to focus on my words and just deliver a really clear message!!! (Consequently... this happens nearly every time I shoot outside to be honest, I don't know why it's still a surprise!) So all these distractions were very challenging even for me, and I'm often in front of the camera and coaching others on how to not get too strung out, so it was great to be in the client's shoes for a little while! Anywho, I got out everything I wanted to say and now I'm just cutting it together into something magical so when I launch the CONNECTED podcast and video channel on Tuesday... it's going to be awesome. - A tad raw, authentic and a bit of background noise no doubt... but 'real' is what I'm going for anyway so it's definitely got a whole lot of that.

And we kept coming back to this same statement we’ve been saying to ourselves for years... we just want to live an extraordinary life.  One that we’re excited to get out of bed for every day. We get to help people daily with our strong skill set. We live with passion, variety and get to be creative and inspired. We stay open and look at the world through a completely different lens and bring fresh solutions to age old problems, every single day. Life is unexpected and unpredictable.
We’re continually learning and expanding, never settling for ordinary.  We live with good health, trust and respect, and enjoy solid relationships with people who feel the same way about self-improvement.
I love what I do in my agency, but I asked myself what ‘job’ would I still like to do in the future, and without any hesitation I said “to travel more, be an author and an artist.” I 100% know that will happen because I’m already on the path.  What does an extraordinary life look like for you? When you go deep, you might already be well on your way.

BECAUSE PEOPLE DO CARE.
This morning we sat down with a client and talked through their video strategy for 2020. They’re in a tough industry, they wholesale to businesses up and down the Eastern seaboard who are badly affected by bushfires. They wholesale to tourist businesses who are in a bad way because of the Coronavirus clampdown. And retail around the world is going through a massive shakeup as buyer habits change and there are daily closures of major leading brands who didn’t see it coming.  So what do you do? Lament about the good old days while you watch it get worse and worse?  Or ramp up your activities online and get active with your video marketing and start seriously connecting with your audience telling your story, letting people in behind the scenes and see how your business operates, showing the people behind it, and the real stories about what makes you tick.  Hopefully you do the latter!
If you're in retail, the way people spend their hard earned dollars has changed. “Shop local” is a lazy marketing message and isn’t a good enough reason to motivate anyone to part with their money. You need to get a lot more personal than that. You might have a bricks and mortar store, but you still need to be online, vocal and happy to share your story with an audience that is interested.
And video is still the best way to do this. On your website, on all of your social platforms, in your showroom or store, on your business partner’s website… anywhere it will be viewed!  Get creative with your message, but more importantly, get personal and tell your stories. People are sincerely interested and it bonds them to you so they have a personal reason to support your business.  Melissa

It’s nearly the end of the first month of 2020, and I’m sure you’ve come back with great vigour and excitement around what you want to achieve… and maybe even ticked off a few marketing goals. BUT work starts to get busy, your personal life gets in the way… and if it’s like all the other years… it’ll be mid year before you know it and you haven’t achieved all that you set out to do.  Sound familiar? So how do keep on track with your marketing and get the results you promised yourself? 
Here’s 2 good ways:
1. Get a MARKETING COACH to help you write up a formal marketing plan that you action religiously and kick your butt if you don’t action your steps. 
OR if you’re working to a tighter budget…  2. Get an ACCOUNTABILIY MASTERMIND group/partner that are a great support and also kicks your butt if you don’t get things done.  MASTERMIND GROUPS are outstanding, because you need to be connected with others who have the same growth mindset and values as you do to achieve the goals that you set at the beginning of the year! And unless you have a group or a coach that you meet up with weekly, fortnightly or monthly... chances are you will go off the rails when things get busy and it's tough to get back on board.  Things to remember when you have a mastermind group:
• make sure everyone has similar values so you don't end up having personality clashes
• don't be the most successful person in the group - you want to learn stuff too! It's great to give, but it's also great to learn lots too
• make sure you have a time keeper and you stick to it - everyone gets 10 or 15 minutes to discuss your issues and then list out your 'to do' list for the next fortnight to be kept accountable, and everyone should get an even turn
• turn up on time and be completely present for the whole session
• you don't need to be in the same city - you can do it over the phone by group call or by zoom
• handpick the people you want in the group, don't settle for just anyone
• not everybody has to be in the same industries.... and if 1:1 coaching is more your thing, make sure you get in touch and we can do a zoom call to see if we work well together. X

Are you so deeply connected to it that you don't ever really switch off? (and that's okay because it doesn't really feel like work anyway when you're on purpose!) This year I have clocked up over 20 years in my agency and it's looked like many different versions to suit the stage of life I am at. I like to think I have a very conscious business, I'm running it and not the other way round! It hasn't always felt this way, but it certainly helps when you know WHY you are in business, WHO you are helping, and WHAT you want out of life and your business so you can live a life by design.  So if you can't answer these questions above succinctly, then maybe some time this week write down WHY you are in business and what you WANT to get out of it... Because until you clearly understand and remind yourself of why you are even doing this in the first place, you won't have the motivation or the desire to see this through when it comes to building up your marketing plan and getting all the actions done to get the results you deserve. 
For me, my business has always represented independence, freedom and flexibility, but as my boys have grown up, it’s gotten a lot deeper than that. I have a much bigger mission to positively impact over a million business owners with my message of connection marketing. A big vision I know, but I'm owning it! Because I want to help all small and medium sized business owners to become champions at their own marketing, and to have awesome businesses that allow them to spend more time with their families and do what they are passionate about. And the best way to achieve this is to connect with yourself, your mission, your people, and your business so it flourishes. In short, to live the life you WANT and have a successful business that helps you do that.  What do you love about your business and do you know exactly WHAT YOU WANT? I was going to write a post all about goal setting… but it all felt really insignificant when I keep seeing the updates from friends and family about how many human lives, half a billion defenceless animals, homes, businesses, livelihoods, land and hopes have been lost from the devastating bushfires which are still raging out of control. 
So instead, I felt compelled to write about having #consciousness in business and #mindfulness - because that is what true #connection is all about.  Over the coming months, when these terrible fires finally burn in on themselves (because that feels like the only way it will end), and we really understand the full extent of the damage done, can we step into our own as business owners and show that we really care about all the innocent people so deeply affected. There are thousands of people displaced, homeless, jobless and without any possessions at all. Livelihoods, entire towns and farms burnt to the ground, tens of thousands of businesses affected not to mention the environmental and emotional damage…  So what can we do to help? I’ve seen a lot of angry blame thrown around on many different pages, but as a conscious business it’s more productive to actually look at what impact we can have right now and in the near future than joining the keyboard warriors. • Do you have products or services you can donate that can help all of the affected people that desperately need to feel like the rest of this country has their back?
• Can you donate to the wonderful RFS and other organisations that are rallying right now to rush supplies to the affected people and all the volunteers?
• Can you open your doors to help people that might be looking for a home or a place to work?
• Can your donated services bring hope back to the many people who have been under tremendous emotional and physical strain?
• When the towns reopen and the small businesses start trading again, can your business do all that it can to help and support them by buying locally?  We need to rally together, stay positive and mindful of all of the little and big things we can do to HELP.  Got any ideas how your business can help?
Instagram post 2210961203352587181_1505740745 The end of a huge year of personal growth and expansion for me on every level - both personal and professional... quite a fitting way to end a big decade! My business has clicked over 20 years in service for a whole range of different clients and industries. I’ve travelled all over Australia doing research and development for clients making DVD’s and sales, I experienced some huge highs for clients, like taking one client’s brand into every BCF store nationwide and helping them become the biggest player in their industry, and more recently having another client 10x their business just this year in a really competitive market.  My 3 boys have grown from boys to men, which now means I can really throw myself into the growth and expansion of my agency. This decade I experienced the end of a marriage, new love, became a step mum, a new marriage, then the greatest shock of all by being widowed at the age of 45. That took some incredible growth to move through but hopefully I did it with grace. And now a beautiful new love and launching our new agency together in the new year. If there is one way to describe this past decade it is definitely practicing resilience!!! So it’s only fitting that James and I have spent the past couple of days trekking around looking for a particular setting for our promotion for the new agency. It is the most wonderful thing to be in a relationship with a creative man even more passionate and dedicated than me. A match made in heaven!  The best of wishes to everyone celebrating the end of a decade and the start of a new year. There’s always so much hope this time of the year... although right now it is marred by the bushfires. Our hearts and love go to everybody effected. My deepest thank you’s to everybody that I have laughed with, cried with, celebrated with and served. May 2020 be as fruitful and as wonderful as we all hope.
