DEBUNKING MARKETING MYTHS 2:

“VIDEO IS TOO STRESSFUL, DIFFICULT, TIME CONSUMING & EXPENSIVE TO DO”.

Let’s debunk myth number two today: “Video is too stressful, difficult, time consuming, expensive, (insert your excuse here)”. Sound familiar? Let me suggest to you that this is not the case… and that I believe there is something bigger and more sinister going on below the surface, if you find yourself making these excuses.

(Warning: get ready for some tough love!)

It’s not the camera or video itself that scares you. What you are reacting to is feeling intimidated, fearful and overly concerned about getting out of your comfort zone, and this is far too common in even the most successful of business owners.” Melissa Scott

I have seen it before. Working on video shoots with clients and all of a sudden a camera gets popped in their face and they implode unexpectedly. I have even seen very accomplished business people crumble and become very self-conscious. And, usually, it all stems back to some unconscious, self-limiting belief that creates this feeling of being excessively uncomfortable.

WHY IS VIDEO GOOD FOR YOUR BUSINESS?

Firstly, here are a few impressive reasons why it is such a great thing to making good quality business videos

  • Improve landing page conversions by 86%
  • Increase sales by 60%
  • People identify 95% more with what you are saying on video then the written word.

WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?

Other really helpful things you can do is:

  • Practice, start off with short videos where you are communicating just one simple message.
  • Speak to your sweet spot, on something you are very knowledgeable about
  • Have confidence in your message. Connecting deeply to the message behind what you are saying and really understand the value of what you’re giving to the other people.
  • Make it less about you and more about your audience. Focus on who you’re serving and helping.
  • Accept that what you are talking about is incredibly important to your target audience and that you’re ripping people off by not sharing this information with them.

And if it’s really debilitating, you should get to the bottom of why it is so ‘impossible’ for you. Speak to somebody professional and get to the core of what is holding you back and why is it a problem for you. So much of our fears come from childhood experiences and make no sense as an adult. So don’t ignore it… deal with it!

BUT WILL THEY LIKE ME?

Yes, video can be polarising, people will decide quickly if they like you or not, based on what they see, your message and tone; and make a decision on whether you are right for them. This is a good thing! Not everyone needs to like you, and if that is the case then they can move on and choose somebody else so you are both not wasting your time in meetings and discussions that go nowhere. You want to be working with the people that are attracted to your core message and what your stand for.

OWN WORST CRITIC

We truly are our own worse critics. The things we say to ourselves we would never say to somebody else. Become conscious of your self talk and go easy! We know the stats on how much video is going to help your business, you just need to get past your internal fears of being judged, being criticised, being watched or feeling like we are being under a microscope.

“Do the work on yourself and be a business leader, not just a business owner and get yourself out there more on video”. Melissa Scott

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

If you are up for it, today I challenge you to jump on social media and do a quick live video about why you went into business. Don’t worry about who might turn up, who’s watching, or will anyone comment. Don’t worry if it’s absolute crap (I’m sure it won’t be, but you can always delete and try again). Just get on there and give a brief introduction of yourself and why you are in business today. Keep it short and simple and straight from the heart.

Remember, marketing is all about creating a connection with your audience and letting them see the real you and develop a wonderful working relationship together. And video is one of the best mediums to create this connection.
