6 Quick Tips on how to put together a great video for your business

If you’ve been paying attention, you will know that I have been saying for ages that by 2019, 80% of what we consume online is video content. And it would appear that this is going to be the case. Most of the social platforms have fallen over themselves to find a way to include video in their format, and with so much competition and little time to consume our information, we want it fast and we want it to be GOOD!

From what we also saw when we visited the video/content conference recently in Las Vegas, the technology is all there and supporting vloggers and information providers to literally create, edit and upload very high quality branded video content in the shortest space of time to their audiences. It really is a matter of “keep up, or get lost in the traffic”.

Being able to confidently hop on board with either live video streaming or fast professional video production can really transform the authenticity of your brand and position you as a leader in your industry. Video is unarguably one of the most powerful tools that allows you to engage with prospective new clients and strengthen the bond with your existing customers.

Almost 5 billion videos are watched on YouTube every single day.
The average mobile viewing session lasts more than 40 minutes.
(This is up more than 50%, year over year).
And approximately 20% of the people who start your video will leave after the first 10 seconds. So you need to make sure it’s a slick intro and feels professional.

So, we thought it made sense to help you out and share some behind the scenes information about how to put together great video content for your website and social media platforms. This is what we do every time and it really becomes easy once you know how…

TIP 1:   Storyboard what you want to achieve with your video. Know what outcomes you would like. Do you want to win more customers? Direct people into a product or service you are selling? Create some brand awareness and be informative? Or are you just wanting to entertain your audience and work on your personal branding? Every video should have a purpose, so make sure you start with the end in mind.

TIP 2:   Now you have your focus, write out a script and read through it many times. Make sure it’s easy to follow for the viewer and not full of industry jargon. Look for the emotive language that draw viewers in. Now isn’t the time to get overly clever… you want to engage and connect.

TIP 3:   Edit your script so it’s clear and concise. Don’t rave on (like I can!). You don’t want to waste countless hours editing yourself in the edit process. And people have short attention spans. They’ll switch off if you start to lose your direction and keep the points fast moving!

TIP 4:   Preparation and practice. Learn your lines. Don’t read off an autocue if it’s just going to be a short video. It’s not hard to learn your lines and then deliver them in short batches. Think about who your audience is and deliver the message that they need to hear in the language and tone they best respond to. Going off the cuff is ok if you’re experienced and naturally good at it. Most people need a solid script though.

TIP 5:   Be confident, natural and always yourself. People can spot a ‘fake’ a mile away and the day of putting on your best presenter voice is definitely over! Don’t be nervous, just practice, practice, practice and I swear it will come easier to you. So many people freeze up when a camera is pointed on them and it’s really interesting to see seemingly confident people crumble. It’s just a camera. Nobody died from having to present their expertise in a video, so you might as well relax and enjoy it!

TIP 6:   Maybe we’re a bit biased, but we really think you need to use a professional videographer for your main website videos. Vlogs and short how-to-videos are great when they’re home-done (like this one), but anything that is actually selling your business’ brand or products/services, needs to be handled by a professional. View it as an investment.

So why do all this? Because 95% of what people see on video they retain. As opposed to only up to 10% retention of the written word.

It makes sense when you think of how many senses you are engaging when you are watching a well-made video. And video hangs around on your website and youtube channel, so make sure the content is evergreen so your video keeps on working for you.

So there you have it, 6 really great little tips on how to make your next video production a GREAT success! And if you really want it to be outstanding, feel free to get in touch and we can talk about how we can help your business put it’s best foot forward in the online space through video content.
